SABL Sport is committed to supporting ambitious young student athletes pursue an exciting future in U.S college sport. Find out more about our Director and Founder Matthew Black below and his journey through the US College football system.

In 2021 Matt found himself nearing the end of his time at Loughborough University without a plan. By chance, Matt was offered a soccer scholarship to the University of Vermont, an NCAA DI school tucked away in the far Northeast of America. Without much consideration, he made the leap and found himself on a flight that summer, embarking on the adventure of a lifetime.

Matt’s first season in Vermont was incredible. He was part of a team that made history, winning the America East Championship title for the first time in eight years. In his second season, the team made it to the quarter finals of the National Championship, an unprecedented feat for UVM at the time. The memories Matt made with his teammates in those two years will always be the highlight of his time in the U.S.

Juggling his athletic achievements with academic demands was not easy, but Matt still found time to enjoy himself off the field. Playing soccer allowed him to travel across the country. He ate steak in Texas and line danced in Tennessee, meeting amazing people from all over the world. At the end of it all, Matt came out with a Master’s degree, fully funded by his athletic scholarship.

In 2024, Matt founded SABL Sport to help athletes in the UK access the same life-changing opportunities. With first-hand experience and a deep understanding of the college soccer system, he is dedicated to guiding those who are ready to take the next step and pursue the future they want in the USA.
